    Energy Storage Expert Program

    Program Summary

    The Battery Storage Expert program includes online self-paced training which covers all aspects of the battery value chain, from raw materials to recycling and from cell function to innovative battery storage business models. The program is delivered by experts from the EIT InnoEnergy ecosystem, one of Europe’s foremost authorities in sustainable energy, energy storage, and business innovation.

    The estimated weekly time commitment (learning hours) for the online 12-week program is about 7.5 hours per week.

    This program empowers participants to:

    • Define the role of battery storage in support of a zero-emission society and decentralized energy market

    • Describe fundamental aspects and main characteristics of current battery technologies and relate them to battery parameters

    • Compare emerging battery technologies and competing energy storage technologies by identifying their strong and weak points

    • Define the battery value chain and identify the main challenges at each step

    • Describe battery life cycle assessment, recycling, and second-life strategies

    • Define the concepts of battery management, control, and modeling of battery energy storage systems

    • Describe different applications of battery storage related to the electrical grid, from mobility (HEV/EVs) and industrial operations to consumer electronics

    • Assess the potential and relevant challenges of implementing new battery energy storage business models

    The Battery Storage Expert program has been specifically designed for experienced and young professionals, and current and future strategic leaders who are preparing for the energy transition. The program has been designed for the up-skilling of professionals, researchers, and engineers who work within the energy ecosystem with potentially prior knowledge of one or several domains relevant to the battery value chain and who want to deep dive into the battery industry and battery technology.     Prerequisites

    • a general understanding of the electricity system
    • a basic knowledge of chemistry, math, physics, and electrical systems

    It is also beneficial to have a basic understanding of electrical systems modeling.

     

    Credentials

    Successful completion of the program requires passing the online multiple-choice course exams with a grade of 75% or higher.

    Learners who successfully complete this program will receive the Battery Storage Expert badge.
