Investment in Battery-NY will be the baseline to grow the battery ecosystem in Upstate New York. The facility will be a first-of-its-kind in the U.S. for at-scale prototyping of higher caliber batteries and scaled proof of new battery technology led by lithium-ion battery co-creator and Nobel Laureate Dr. M. Stan Whittingham and Executive Director, Paul Malliband.

This state-of-the-art facility is underway at the former Gannett Building in Johnson City, NY. It will support the advanced prototyping of clean battery-based technologies and help to establish the necessary infrastructure to support the battery manufacturing industry and supply chain.

Facility features include:

• Flexible technology development to encourage American equipment manufacturers.
• Development and testing of new manufacturing methods to ensure bad actors are eliminated early on.
• An industry demonstration scale with a dual 30 MWh pilot line for cylindrical and pouch cell batteries.
